Will a pregnancy test work within a week and a half?

if you have sex the day before you are in your HIGH risk of falling pregnant, would a pregnancy test work a week and a half later? or do you have to wait the whole 2 weeks?
 
I would wait until you are supposed to get your period and take a test. If you can't wait until then, you can test but it might give you a false negative. I am playing the waiting game right now too. I took a test a week ago, and it was negative, and I'm not due to get my period for another 5 days, but I have a sneaking suspicion that I am pregnant. Good luck!
