Will a pleco (sucker fish) be okay with a sand substrate?

We are converting our 50 gallon aquarium to a sand bottom, will our pleco be okay? Or will he eat the sand and like die?

he should be fine, eventually he will outgrow you tank, im gona have to give mine away to someone who has a pond in a couple of years
