Will a fish tank cycle by its self?

I have a fish tank with no fish in it. Its a 75 gallon and is second hand and has lots of bacteria in it. the filter is running. Will it cycle by its self and if so how long

No, it wont.

Even if it has bacteria in it right now, with no source of ammonia the bacteria will die, hence the cycle will die.

If you are 100% sure its a cycled tank you can keep the cycle alive by throwing in some fish food every other day as a source of ammonia.

I'm just curious, if it's an empty tank, how can you be so sure it has lots of bacteria in it?

The cycle doesn't start till u give a source of ammonia
