will 203mm Avid BB7's fit my bike?

Im getting avid bb7's and I have a 2007 Specialized Rockhopper with a dart 3 fork. will 203mm fit the fork? the manufacturer says 160mm is the max recommended size but cant i get an adapter? and will the 203mm fit the rear end of my bike or do I need an adapter for that also? if so, do they make it? i know 203mm sounds overkill but i do some crazy s*** so i think they would best suit my needs

Really terrible answers, and from normally good posters too...

8" rotors will NOT fit a Dart... it just isnt made for riding that's burly enough to need a 203 rotor. You'll need to step up to something like a Domain, Argyle or even a Totem...

As for the adapter creating a 'weak point'... Adapters are in use on World Cup winning DH bikes, they arent going to create any weak spot whatsoever. And as for what fits... this is actually an issue of what will physically fit the fork at maximum compression. Were you to wind your fork down to 80mm and fully compress it, it would physically hit the fork and start snapping things.

Also, just FYI... the posters here can give really good general info but they're mostly XC guys.. for Freeride and Downhill you should check out the pinkbike.com forums.

It might *fit* your fork, but I don't think you should do it. The max size is not the size tghat would fit, but the size that is safe to use.

If you really do ride tougher, you should think of getting a stronger fork, which is more important than larger rotors.

Bottom line is no, they won't fit your bike. Here's the thing... if you use an adapter to make the bigger discs fit you'll also create a weak point which defeats the purpose of beefing up the brakes. Chances are that the Dart 3 wil simply twist and break under the strain of that size of brake, and so would the frame.

160's are used on some of the worlds most aggressive bikes and will far outstrip anything the bike itself could handle as far as terrain.
