Morning Flights
A murder of crows dot the morning sky,
Seventeen like syllables in haiku,
Pursuing a late hunting great horned owl
Just because they are so many and can.
Blue jays harry squirrels jealous of them
Because they have acorns the jays can't eat,
And jays naturally bother others-
Mostly for the practice and amusement.
Doves take flight and circle a likely field,
Landing and feeding quietly below
Keeping a wary eye for early hawks,
Living up to their peaceful character.
The cardinals must have been at mass. They didn't show this morning.
