Wii vs. Xbox 360, which to buy, ps3 not an option

So im thinking I need one of the above for xmas, but dont know which one.

PS3 is not an option because im an aussie and its not out until february anyway.

I way i see it.
XBOX360:
-pro: better graphics and online play
-pro: better future potential
-con: $700aus for the premium system
-con: I dont have a hd tv currently.

Wii:
-pro: $400aus.
-pro: more fun? SO will be into it a lot more.
-pro: wont make me buy a new tv
-con: dodgy graphics and seems aimed more at kids (im 23 if that helps)
-con: less adulty games and ?online play
-con: SO be into it a lot more

So in short I guess its a case of do i want, the technically superior machine or the cheaper possibly more fun one.

I had an n64, it pissed me off a bit due to the lack of storage on cartridges compared to ps1. Bought a ps2 next.

Is there anything im missing?
 
You really won't notice a huge differance in graphics if you don't have an HDTV (In terms of going from xbox --> 360)

I'd consider your SO playing with you a plus Unless she expects you to let her win all the time
 
Do you play games a lot with friends or have guests over? If so, I'd suggest the wii. and you can always count on nintendo to release some of the best first party games.

if you're in to shooters and lots of online play, and will eventually get a better tv, i'd go with the 360.
 
Im fairly into fps's and racing sims on the pc, but did find good value in some of the n64 games.

Multiplier wont really get used on the wii more than 2.

PS. Should I finally buy an av, actually considering it!
 
Thats the way it will be marketed for sure over here.

Thats the way I felt with the n64 anyway, while the ps1 had gt1+2 the n64 had mario kart, diddy kong racing etc. Both were 'fun', but I dunno...
 
Goldneye, conker, and zelda are enough to make the N64 fucking amazing. There were lots of other great games too. I found it funny that the remake of Conker on xbox was much more censored than the original.
