Wii launches here in Australia in 4 days.... but do I want one now? :noes:

After closely following all the info regarding Wii and the US launch I am having doubts now whether I'm ready to shell out AUD $399 + $109 (Zelda) for a new Nintendo system with last gen graphics and a possibly gimmick controller that will wear off.

Here is the opposition, my X360 and my LCD HDTV.
I'm happy enjoying my new xbox in High Def at the moment, been playing through Gears of War and Splinter Cell: DA.

While I originally was quite excited about the Wii, after mixed results from owners I dont know what to do now.
Red Steel has bombed (one of the launch games I was looking forward to) and now the only game on the system I am wanting to buy is Zelda.

I have had a glimpse at the 2007 release list for wii and I cant really say that there is anything but maybe 2 or 3 titles on the list I would definietly buy.

Anybody suggest what I should do?
I still want to get the Wii but a part of me is saying its just a waste of money since I'm thoroughly enjoying my 360 at the moment.

I would wait, I can never decide whether I want to get a Wii or not. I look at it one day and think it looks great, another day I think the same as you.

I am going to wait a bit, might get Zelda for gamecube as thats the really only appealing game at the moment (for me)

I can give you my opinion as a Wii and 360 owner..
I love both systems very much. I'm also going through Gears of War.

For me.. I have put my 360 on the back burner for now. When I pick up a controller lately, its the Wii. If I sit around and think "ok, im going to do some gaming, which system am I wanting to play?", I usually grab a Wiimote.

Once you play it (at least for me) you don't notice the graphics. And in all honesty, yes, the graphics aren't what you get out of your 360, but shit, its not like you are looking at an Atari 2600 or a Colecovision.

Get the Wii. Have fun.
Think about why you buy console and console video games.. To play and have fun. If you wanted graphics that bad, then turn on the TV and watch some cartoons.

That's where many will disagree.

While I'm still waiting to get my Wii, I go to my friends house to play his. I got a 360, he has a wii.

In the end, my friends are always coming over to my house to play some split screen games. We just find the 360 way more fun than the Wii.

But like I said earlier, if you play games alone, go with the wii. If you want multiplayer, go with the 360.

360 multiplayer with great graphics and games > all.

That's why I'm not camping out to get a Wii yet. Sure I've been looking by getting up early every past Sunday, but honestly, it's not worth waiting in line for.

All I want it for is Zelda too. Then what? Wait until mid 2007 for some other games?

Get a 360, pick up Gears of war, call of duty 3, rainbow six vegas, dead rising, and so on. Enjoy the shit out of xbox live too.

edit- Opps, you already have a 360. I was thinking you were deciding between the two.

I bought the PS3, played it for about a few days and realized it was just the same shit as PS1, PS2, and all of the dozen other consoles, but just with nice graphics.. Hours and hours of mashing buttons.

With that said, I am selling my PS3 for a Wii

The Wii is a hell of a lot of fun, but doesn't have many multiplayer games worth a damn. I'd wait till june to get one if Multiplayer is more what you like because by then they should have some wicked multiplayer games for the Wii

holy shit, wii games are 110 bucks over there??? does that mean 360 and ps3 games are 120? and for comparison, how much is a pack of 20 cigs right now (since you guys have packs with more than that as well), or a 12oz soda in a vending machine?

whats the exchange rate like, 110 sounds stupid high, I hear coke is like 300 a ball out there so theres gotta be some exchange thing going out there, I'd just play PC games if I had to pay double for games. buy other than price you'll probably like the wii, I'm not to bias with console, always been a big ps1 and ps2 fan and I'm still glad I got mine.

I think its about 75us cents to the dollar, so thats about $75-80us for a game. Definately more with the conversion.

I wonder if we are going to see the camping out people here that you guys get. I dont think aussies are that motivated to put in that much time and effort! I reckon I could walk in and pick one up in the first week locally without a drama.

@ deviant:

i work in a supermarket and pack of winfield 25's (any colour cept 1-2milligrams) are about AU$10:50. as for soda i have no idea how much 12oz is since we use metric but ill assume you mean a 375ml can and from a dispenser your looking at around a buck and a half-2

1. i was in my eb games store the other day and all wii games are priced at $109, and 2. i wont be camping out coz those bastards over at nin au decided not to include WesternAustralia for the midnight launches but over in the eastern states i predict many will camp out for the system

If all you want is Zelda + 2 other titles next year then perhaps its not worth it if you arent a heavy Zelda fan.

But just listing some games im looking forward to:

Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Metroid Prime 3
Super Mario Galaxy
Battalion Wars 2
Project H.A.M.M.E.R.
LucasArts Project
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Crystal Bearers

... If they dont impress you, then theres no point in getting a Wii.

You either love Nintendo or hate them. Also remember that theres going to be a shit load of third party titles developing games for the Wii after one of the most successful console launches.

Oh and Red Steel was practically the only game that failed because of its control system.
