Wii going great at the moment breaking sales records but will it last

I don't think it's going to fail in the sense that they abandon it and it's a colossal failure. They'll obviously be around, but I don't think they'll ever be #1 in sales this gen. There's a good chance they won't even break out of 3rd place.

and once it price drops. I would not count the Wii out for one second, if it can produce good games then it will be a big system this generation. Its all based on the games in the long run for the Wii, I'm just hoping its not gonna be another n64 and produce maybe 2 good games a year.

Mmmmh I agree to some extent but I dought it will be in 3rd for the list of games that are coming out for it. The games just look amazing and the gameplay in some have never been seen before. I believe once Sony finds a way to reduce the cost of making PS3s, they'll start the price drop and everyone will want one....just how the PS2 did

Sony is in deep trouble with the PS3. They have outpriced themselves. I wouldn't count on the prices dropping anytime soon, either, because they're already losing over $200 per unit. (Smarter) gamers will turn elsewhere, i.e. the Wii and the XBOX 360, if they realize their money is better spent elsewhere. If Sony is unable to retain it's fanbase, developers will shop their exclusive licenses elswhere, and that will be the final nail in the coffin for PS3. Without developer support and exclusive games, they have absolutely nothing. 8 processors processing crap is still 8 processors processing crap.

Conversely, the Wii is selling like hotcakes, will likely continue to sell like hotcakes, developers will take note and bring along their games with them. If the DS is any indication, the Wii will offer a gameplay experience not available with the other guys. Will it last? It would take a major disaster for it to not.

That's the thing, the PS2 dominated right out of the gate, and I don't forsee a price drop in time to save them. It'll be 1.5 - 2 years before there's a price drop, and even then, the other systems will most likely have dropped their prices as well, and at that point, would you rather buy a 360 or a PS3 that's still going to be going for $4-500?

Wait a year or so, and the Wii will look like complete shit compared to the PS3, hell if i didn't have any console at the moment and someone offered me one, i'd take the PS2 over the Wii

I have a Wii at the moment but I think soon enough the buzz will die down. I just beat Zelda and the thing is already starting to collect dust. No other games excite me that are currently out and just about the only thing that looks good on the horizon (to me) is Metroid and the new Zelda game thats being made exclusively for the Wii....

Anyways I really do think the PS3 will start to gain popularity over the next year as the price drops/more games are released.

I'm pretty sure the PS3 will go the route of the Xbox.....

This is what I think. In the end, Nintendo is going to look like the winner, and Sony is going to come out looking like a loser. Mainly because Nintendo will win back a lot of market share, with Sony taking the hit.

I predict either

1. Sony
2. Nintendo
3. Microsoft

or

1. Microsoft
2. Nintendo
3. Sony

Also, you gotta look at how much it costs to make a PS3 game. The average cost of a PS3 game right now is $8.6 million(maybe similar for 360 as well.) This could turn off a lot of developers . The Wii costs is substantially smaller than that, but that could also mean tons of shittier games could come out.

Seems us Aussies love to Wii...

They would have done even better leading up to Xmas here if they shipped more stock for release.

The Wii is like any other console. Give the developers time and you'll see the games get better and better. Just compare Perfect Dark on 360 to Gears of War.

Personally I don't think Sony can afford to not drop the price. If Nintendo/MS do price drops and Sony lags behind, it's not a good position for PS3 sales. On the flipside, they can't do too large of a price drop (unless the Cell Tech and BluRay Tech drop in price) or they'll be so upside down on manufacturing costs that they'll need every exclusive game to sell millions of copies.

It's a tough position they've put themselves in and either way, they're going to have to take a loss and hope for the best. Their one hope really rests in games if they keep their launch price.

I'm going to go give my Wii a hug and then go to bed. I've had numerous requests to bring it to work for everyone to play so I'm doing that tomorrow.

of course it looks like shit, it has like 1/8th the power

I like the wii so far because it is different and motherfucking fun as hell to play. So far, right now the PS3 seems to be the same old recycled bullshit games with fancypants graphics.

if anything, I see myself getting a 360 before a ps3
