Wifi/Wi-Fi/Wireless Problems

I labeled the thread this way so it gets more hits on a search in case anyone is wondering.

My problem is that Wifi fails to reconnect when unlocking the phone. I can connect fine on first setup, after the first 3-4 times I lock and unlock it still maintains connection, then all of the sudden it stops working all together. I will unlock the phone and it will only connect to Edge (no 3G here) and I get a notification that open wireless networks are available. I can reconnect by going to Wifi settings and manually connecting (only works after 2nd attempt) but it will stop working again eventually. I've tried the following configs:

dd-wrt v24-sp1 (3 AP's, same SSID, same WPA pass, different channels)
WPA2 (TKIP encryption)
WPA (AES encryption)

All the laptops, iPhone's, etc in my house work absolutely perfect with my Wifi so I know its related to the G1. Is anyone else having issues?

I've tried WPA/WPA2 with TKIP and AES. None of these combinations worked. Are you using WEP by chance? I really don't want to compromise my wireless network security by switching to WEP because of this.

I am using WPA2 Personal and I have been having a pretty solid connection. I haven't seen the proble. That you described, but I have lost wireless connection a few times at random it seems.

The only major issue I have with the wifi is if you do not have your AP/Router broadcasting it's SSID the andriod will not pick up the network for a long time. (Ofc the network has to be added to the list manualy the fierest time.) I have to set my AP to broadcast if I am to have any hopes of connecting to it most of the time from the android.

I am having the same problem. I've notice that when I am in the living room this happens more often as the router is in a different room. Perhaps the wifi antenna on the G1 is not very good.

this may sound stupid but try rebooting your router. Works for me if i have any issues with any of my wireless devices.

For me, my phone detects wireless outside but doesn't detect the one at home. I reset the router, the phone, changed SSID, tried a different security (I'm using WPA2 Personal) - even sent it over to the service center to be fixed. It came back and worked for like 3 days and then failed to detect it again. And restarting the router doesn't work either. So so sorry I got the android.

What I have found and it is a constant is:

If I attempt an app which wants to connect to the internet immediately after taking the phone out of sleep mode and prior to the phone fully connecting to WiFi then it is time to reboot. This is a constant.

Just another problem with Android (2.2 and 2.1 and 1.6).

Becoming very disolutioned with Android.

ARE YOU LISTENING GOOGLE????

Yeahhhhh !!! eaxactly the same issue here I have the Samsung Galaxy S, is anyone having the same issues here with Galaxy S... I think its the Android software though... Factory reset seems to work but then every few weeks the wireless craps itself, it picks up every other neighbourhoods wireless, its got something to do with cacheing in the software with the SSID settings seems to just corrupt itself after a while... this is rubbish !!!

Any fixes !!! fricken Hell !!!

Three different android phones and they all have the same problem. I have also changed the router. It seems that when you bring the phone back from sleep there is an interval in which the connection is being remade. If you try to connect during that time WIFI will fail. Sometimes you will see "scanning..." and sometimes it looks ok. I have had to reboot phone (all of them) so many times I cannot believe other than this is an Android problem.

Yes 100% all 3 x friends of mine that have the Galaxy S are doing the same things, wireless disconnections with their routers too,
its definitely a prob with the wifi firmware and android as others dont seem to have the same problem.
And funny thing is my mates HTC is doing it also... so I know for a fact its got something to do with the wireless firmware/android...
Why the F*** has this not been recognised as a problem and why is it not being addressed... I haven't seen anywhere on the net that there will be some sort of fix, Eta or any of that ****... I can't use 3G my telco likes to ripp a new ******* for data rate charges...

I am using a Cruz Reader. My problem is I am in a campground that does have a very strong wifi with open access, but requires one to go to a welcome page and click on "free..." inorder to get to the internet. My laptop goes to that page automatically or by typing 192.168.17.1. My Cruz connects to the wifi fine, but does not go to the welcome page nor will it find 192.168.17.1. I have tried several browsers, including browser and Dolphin HD. I have latest rom on the Cruz. Thank you in advance for any suggestions. Paul

I have a similar issue as the OP, it seems I'll detect ever other network in my neighborhood, but not my own. 4 pc's and a wii in the house have no trouble with the home network, and neither did my nook. Until I rooted it. Now the rooted nook displays the exact same behavior ad my moto DROID.
