Wifi + WAP: seriously WTF!

My WiFi "connects" but doesnt work after setting up cricket wap. Heres the situation:

1. Hard reset unbranded xv6700
2. Install verizon MMS from extended rom (dont set it up yet)
3. test wifi and it works with IE and opera
4. Set up WAP and it connects and works
5. test Wifi and it does not work. IE says "The page cannot be found. Check the name and try again", Opera says "Could not find proxy server [website url]"

I have listed literly everything i have done. There is no other software installed, no registry changes (exept to see extended rom).
Does anyone else have this problem?
Would upgrading to AKU 3.5 help anything?

can I ask you a question about AKU then?

What exactly is it? Is it the newer version of the verizon customization? Can I switch back if I dont like it / doesnt work?
 
yea i think you can always switch back to a previous version...i honestly think its the best one...i think it even gives you longer battery life, and makes ur phone a lil faster..

yes....... you will have to change the settings....... you might need to change some registries so your wifi, wap and make calls can work all at the same time
 
hey kjavi! how can u be on the internet and answer calls at the same time??
every time i get a call and im on the phone's internet(not wifi) i cant answer my calls...i just see them coming in but cant answer them.. how did u fix that?
 
Ok, I installed kirvins no junk 3.5 and I can receive calls while using WAP but my WiFi still wont work! Same problem as above, wifi cruzes the internet until i set up WAP and its all over. Seriously, no one elze has this problem? Im on a xv6700 with cricket in Arizona.
 
i found the registry that neeRAB to be changed on a website cant think of what it is since i did it long ago...... just look it up on google and you'll find it
 
This is with a hard reset. I did it again just to be sure. After a hard reset the only thing I do is set up WAP and my WiFi just stops working.
 
ok, its definatly the wap. if I tell it to look at "my ISP" for programs to connect to the internet. wifi works again. How can nobody else have this problem?
 
It's probably because you have it setup to connect through Cricket's proxy and if you're not connecting via Cricket's WAP, you will not be able to access sites through their proxy. When using WiFi, just disable your proxy by unchecking the box or by changing which network programs should use to connect to the internet.
 
same issue as using a 8125 on cingular using the cingular wap portal. wap uses a proxy to get to websites, and wifi doesn't need a proxy. disable the proxy to use wifi. its working, but its trying to connect via a proxy as you have set in your wap settings.
