Wifi is disabled when screen is turned off

Hello,

Whenever my phone is not connected to a power supply wifi is disconnected when the screen is turned off.
I have a HTC Desire running Android 2.2.
I have set the wifi sleep policy to never, but that seems to have no effect.

This is quit annoying as i am using my device to listen to netradio, which is currently not possible when it is not connected to a power supply.

Anyone knows a way to fix this?

Thanks, Nicklas

Hi NicklasJ and welcome to the AC forums.

Different Android phones have slightly different menus, but on mine it's Home -> Menu -> Settings -> Wireless and networks -> Wi-Fi settings -> Menu -> Advanced -> Wi-Fi sleep policy -> then select Never.

The downside of the above is it will use a lot more power.

Thanks for your answer extorian, but as I tried to say, I have already set wifi policy to never sleep.
This seems to only have an effect when my phone is connected to a power supply, because when I disconnect the charger wifi IS sleeping although I've set the policy to never sleep...

Any other ideas?

Sorry - I missed that bit of your post.

Setting WiFi sleep to never keeps WiFi connected for me.

Try an app like WiFi Lock: http://www.androlib.com/android.application.com-elsdoerfer-wifilock-qnz.aspx

No problem

Tried the Wifi lock app, and several others but with no luck. The momen the screen goes black, my wifi connection is dropped..

Anybody else with a Desire running 2.2 facing the same problem?

It happens on N1 too, and apparently FRG83 (Froyo 2.2.1) fixed it for N1

I never had a problem. wifi continues to work for me and tunewiki. Maybe its about getting the right settings set.
