Wifi? Hotspot? and Flexpay?

OK, evidently I need a knowledgeable tmobile rep to answer this question. I have gotten 2 different answers today. Ok, flexpay has a feature called just hotspot. It is 19.99. Flexpay does not offer talk for ever and or hotspot at home. If I have a curve and pay for the flexpay hotspot for 19.99 wouldn't I be able to make calls on my phone without it coming off of my minutes? One rep said yes another rep said no. They say if I add the 19.99 feature on my account it would just give me unlimited internet over wifi. If this is true I really don't understand the point in anybody adding this to their account. Especially for 19.99. It just doesn't make sense. Can anybody clarify it? I hope I am explaining my question right.

From my understanding, what you're talking about is unlimited use through T-mobile hotspots(such as Starbucks).

On their website there are two hotspot related things. Both require a phone or data plan.

nevermind, I just found it. What you're looking at is unlimited use of T-mobile hotspots for internet use.

I don't know if I'm allowed to link this, but if I'm not...mods...feel free to remove the link.

I looked over all that information, thanks for the link. I still don't see if you can add the unlimited national plan and be able to make calls without it using your minutes. Some reps seem to think that you can, some say you can't.

On flexpay you can't add hotspot@home/talk forever. The hotspot feature for 19.99 is if you go to a place that offers t-mobile hotspots for internet for you laptop mainly. ~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~

wow i thought the whole point of flexpay was to be able to have any t-mobile service without the contract, because before the prepaid was very limited with what services u could get.

Isn't that like saying people with Flex Pay's money isn't as good as everyone else's? Also if Flex Pay customers have to pre pay their bill instead of post pay it T-Mobile's money is guaranteed and in the bank...JonnyXedge help me out to understand this. Doesn't sound right at all??!!

the whole advertised point of flex pay is so that you know exactly what your bill is going to be, since you pay it ahead of time. That way you don't suddenly get the bill when you're pressed for cash. It's also for people who have bad/no credit.

Flexpay is like prepaid's college graduate brother.

Color me blonde but if you want a service then you should be able to get it regardless of what account.. Also if you want an additional service you are told and will know ahead of time how much it will be and what your new bill will be every time. That is a surprise? Nope. Apparently I am not getting it but no matter how you turn it it still doesn't make sense. It should be offered to everyone then if you cant pay it it gets turned off.

I would think it to be annoying to have certain things in individual accounts be turned on and off frequently. That requires a lot of upkeep on their part.

Again, I repeat, flex pay is advertised for people who have bad/no credit also.

Yes but that is supposed to be the reason that the bill is paid in advance. Flex pay customers also pay more for phones and are still under contract for 2 years. Not to mentions that if they purchased the Curve for a higher price and cannot use the wifi feature to save on minutes. Way to treat your customers Tmobile.

~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~well with flex pay services they give you just about all the same benefits as being on a contract. However if you sign a 2year contract you WILL get all the same discounts as a non flexpay 2yr contract. The only time you pay more for a device is when you sign up on flex pay without a contract. There is no contract so you can stop at any time so the phones are invoice cost. That's the only time you'll pay more for a phone if you're on a contract. If you went to an indirect dealer (non corporate loacation) there is a chance that you would have paid more for a device on a two year contract. However,on flexpay service you can subscribe to the blackberry service and you can still take advantage of the @home service to. A certain extent. You can use it to increase your level of reception. You can still take advantage of wifi browsing but you wouldn't be able to get on the unlimited @home calling service for 9.99$

A certain extent just don't cut it. You do not get all of the same services if you do sign a 2 year contract, so therefore you are not receiving the same benefits. On the initial phone maybe but that is it. I hope that T-Mobile reviews this policy. I smell lawyers lurking here...

~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~tmobile reps told.me flex pay means bad or not good enough credit,so with hotspot,if u make a call wen NOT connected to it takes from ya minutes, and if u go over,an run up the bill, they don't trust u enough to pay because of ya credit standings.

~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~there may be changes to the flex pay services but right now that's how its set ip. Its no different than smart access. Actually smart access was worse than flex pay. Smart access you couldn't add blackberry service or anything unless you went with blackberry data only. So this offers you more. They also want to make sure that they keep customers signing up for a two year contract so they offer additional services for customers with who are eligible for it. For instance verizon only targets customers with great credit. If you don't have great credit it use to be 1000$ deposit to get on board with there services with us no deposits just pay in advance it all works out. You can opt out of flex pay and put a deposit of 250$ and get all the same benefits of a normal postpaid customer.

Flexpay was designed partially to replace the old SmartAccess plan. It is still a limited service for anyone who wishes to sign up with T-Mobile. You have the choice of doing month-to-month with or without a credit check and contract (if approved) with a credit check. If you choose to do a contract (as mentioned) you do get a discount on the phone (how much depends on where you activate), you get to rebuild your credit, you get no surprise bills, and you can have a family plan. If you choose to do month-to-month you don't get a discount on the phones, you get to choose normal rate plans, you get to choose most features (restricted by T-Mobile), no credit check, no surprise bills, and you get to do Family Plans.

Flexpay was NOT designed to replace contract service. It may in the future have the option of Talk Forever Home and Mobile services but does not at this time. Considering the very few limitations it has right now, it is still one of the best options on the market for anyone that is credit challenged, wants to control thier bill, or doesn't want a contract.
