Wife is in need of a new Android phone, which though?

My wife and I both had G1s (she's anything but a geek, I just talked her into it but she loved it) and I ultimately upgraded to the N1. The G1 is old and she's tired of how slow it is now. She's even rooted w/Cyan.

So it's time for an upgrade for her; however, there's a few criteria that need to be met...

* faster / more memory than the G1, she wants speed!
* physical QWERTY keyboard (she MIGHT be willing to slide on this)
* has to work on T-mobile

Anyone have any suggestions? Cost isn't really a factor. I'm just at a lost for what is out there that meet this criteria. For example, the Droid would be awesome and exactly what she'd want if the thing was GSM.

You're in the exact same situation as me.

My wife and I both bought G1's when it was launched. I've since upgraded to the N1, but she's still on the G1 because she loves the keyboard.

She says she prefers a phone with a physical keyboard, but I don't want to just slide her onto a new but equally inferior phone. The new mytouch slide has a clocked up processor of the G1, but it's still sluggish. Add on top of that an awkward hacked up version of Sense, and I'm pretty turned of by it.

I'm probably just going to buy her an N1, because I can't stand seeing her use the G1 with all it's issues. My N1 however has weird call problems (random static, random dropped call, random tones, etc), so I don't know if it's a quality switch for her.

I'm just hoping the Desire lands in the US for us.

Has to "work" on Tmobile... I assume you mean 3G. My criteria for next phone are basically the same: physical keyboard. Nokia N900? (Too big, probably). But, just to check stuff out, I disabled 3G on my G1 for a week (running edge or wifi when possible) and hardly noticed the difference. So, for my needs: keep the G1 (until something else comes out) or look seriously at the Nokia C6.

T-Mobile has the crappiest Android handsets at the moment; most of them are about the same as the G1 but with more memory. IMO, the only decent Android phone on T-Mobile is the Nexus One from Google.

BTW: The G1 has the best keyboard I had used for Android so far- I upgraded to the Droid (on Verizon) and I do not like it at all. I am about to put my Droid on eBay once I get my Incredible -and ditch the physical keyboard completely.

I know this one isn't out quite yet and doesn't have a physical keyboard but with the 4 inch screen it might make typing a little easier. It also come with swype installed.

Exactly the same. lol I don't want to get her a new equally inferior phone either. I might have her start practicing with the on screen keyboard and just get her the N1. She'll like it - maybe? lol women are hard to please!

they sure are, mines like the cliq better than the nexus. all touch screens aren't everybody. neither is the length and and width. some people prefer compact phones.
