Wierd court dates in court?

My uncle is recently in court for reasons I'd rather not say, it's nothing like murder or anything serious but his court dates have been prolonged for over a year , for example his next court dates are one in November and another in December . There might be evidence against him. Does anyone have a clue on why he could possibly be going to court in huge gaps of time, doesn't have to be a detailed explanation just your best guess on why with the details I've provided please.
 
A friend of mine had her court date postponed for over two years. They are trying to get him to plead guilty and make him serve time. Don't fall for that tatic just keep going and eventually they will quit rescheduling and drop the charges.
