Wicker Man - Controversy surrounds US remake

I assume you mean the bit on the mainland at the beginning? I think that spoils the film a bit as it works better when the whole film is set on the island.

I refuse to have anything to do with this "remake" on principle. It's fair enough to make a new film inspired by an old one, but give it a different name and don't promote it as a remake. That's the annoying thing.

There have been many. Just to start you off, there was Michael Winner's inferior remake of 'The Big Sleep' in 1978, relocated to London and starring a rather confused looking Robert Mitchum.
