First let me say how thrilled I am that this will be a movie. Even if we have to wait several years for it to be completed. :D It still thrills me. I love the muscial (and the book) and think they'll be able to pull off a good movie.

Now, not to start a riot...but I highly doubt that Idina and Kristen will be cast as the leads. It jsut wouldn't make sense, since most of the movie takes place when they are supposed to be in their teens and 20's.

There are a ton of people out there that could handle the parts I think. Idina and Kristen were magical when they were on stage and I would love for them to have cameo's...but logical, as leads...I'm just not sure.

And, whoever mentioned that Idina should guest star on Glee?? Well, Kristen is going to be on there next week! It looks like it's going to be awesome!

i still think Idina was the best. Other people have done the role with better singing technique-wise. But i haven't seen anyone match Idina when it comes to the acting and the emotion she puts into the songs.

Kind of the same with Kristin..i haven't seen/heard one person sing the role as good as she does. And acting-wise, other actresses doing Glinda bug me..i don't know why...but there's always something i find off about their attempts...i don't know what it is though

I totally agree!
I think cameo's would be really cool to see too.
My dream cast(other then having the OBC) would be to have Lea Michele and Kristen Bell  that would be amazing!

I haven't heard any of the others yet....but I am partial to the initial cast because their's are the voices I've fallen in love with.

i would love Kristen Bell in Wicked.

and this is just an idea but what about Tim Burton directing in it, any thoughts? good? bad?

according to IMDB Wicked has a 2013 release, only two month ago it had a 2011 releaase so who knows

^ That is an awesome picture. Idina should guest star in Glee and be like her long lost mom or something. :) Speaking of Lea, I heard she will sing Defying Gravity in Glee. Can't wait for that.

Maybe they can have younger actors when they were in college years and let Idina and Kristin play the older characters. Or maybe they can have cameo roles.

Anyway, some people are suggesting Kristen Bell for Galinda which is also a nice choice considering she can play perky characters and can sing (judging by Reefer Madness.)

I AM SOOO EXCITED FOR WICKED!!!! But then I think it's still going to be an awfully long wait.

:woot: glad i'm not alone!

Example of how closely they look alike

omg i was just talking about Lea doing the role to a friend of mind lol

every time i watch Glee, i'm like shocked at how much she looks ,and even sounds a little, like Idina.

I really dont think Idina does Defying Gravity justice to be perfectly honest. Everybody thinks Idina is the best just because she was the first in the part but I've seen/heard plenty more capable actresses do a much better job. I personally think that Kerry Ellis does the best Defying Gravity and she's not even my favourite Elphaba.

I hope they cast relatively unknowns in the parts though. By the time this film is made Idina and Kristin (as much as I love her) will be way too old for the parts.

I'm really nervous seeing this translated onto screen though, they've done the stage version so well that I think they'll really have to get everything perfect to satisfy the fans.

I Wanted Tim Burton To Direct This!!!

I Don"t Want Lea Michael To Play Elphba< Anyone But Here Plz Plz !!!!

I'm coming a little late to this thread i guess  but i just have to throw out there IF they dont have Idina and Kristin there is only one other person for Elphaba in my opinion and that Lea Michele. She has the voice, the acting talent and seriously the girl just LOOKS like Idina, its kind of freaky how much they look alike.

i liked the book, i mean it was so different than the musical but it was good!

i am not too nervous about the movie though, because all the musicals have been good so far, rent mamma mia, producers, chicago, hairspray!

As much as I love Glee I also hope it goes to J.J. I think he would be able to master the darker moments better.

Agreed! If you watch interviews with these 2, they just seem so in touch with the roles. They had so much time to really create and make their characters become part of them. They are really proud of this show. And these 2 can sing like no other!

While Wicked is my favorite musical, I'm a little nervous about how it will turn out.

I've always been a huge fan of musicals, having been brought up on them on those long car rides with the family, and taken to shows.

Lately I haven't really been impressed with the stage to screen adaptations that I've seen in theaters.

Granted it's hard to please everyone, but I feel as though most of the screen adaptations haven't lived up to my expectations at all.

That being said, I would go see the film, just because of my fascination with the play.

Some people have brought the issue of casting.
I feel as though is only fair to give the roles to the original cast members (Kristen, Idina, Norbert, Joel, etc.) They are the ones who I feel made the play a success and therefore the roles should belong to them.

The only problem with the giving the roles to Idina, Kristen, Norbert, etc is that part of the play does take place at Shiz and as much as they look good for their ages...I don't know if they would be willing to cast them for that reason. :look:

Though I can't really picture anyone else in the roles if not for the original cast.

My thoughts on the debate between basing the film on the book versus the stage production, is that the play would be a better idea. Of course I did not enjoy the book, so maybe I am biased.

i think that there is a good chance for it i mean they see how well musicals are doing right now!
