Wi-Fi Sync Issues

Good day,

Since day 1 I have been able too, without issue, sync my TX with my PC wirelessly. But all of a sudden when I Try i get "The connection between your device and the desktop could not be established. Please check your setup and try again." Nothing has changed on my pc and everything is as it was. I am running Windows SP2 and Norton AV 2005. But these are configured and have worked before. Anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks,

I haven't been able to get mine to work yet, so if my idea is out to lunch just laugh quietly to yourself, but maybe your router assigned a new IP address to your computer. Mine only really holds them for 2 days, so if you don't turn the computer on for longer than that (or if you reset the router) you might end up with a new IP address. Just make sure they match.

And I wish I could get mine to work.

I've never been able to hotsync with my computer (using wifi) by name. That is, when I let hotsync scan, it never sees my computer. I've always had to enter its IP address. Since the computer's IP address is established by DHCP when I boot it, I often have to confirm that hotsync is using the right address.

As it turns out, the IP address is usually the same. So I usually just try to hotsync letting the Palm use the last known address. If it doesn't connect right away, I cancel the hotsync then look up the PC's address. When you tell hotsync to scan for PCs, it will show that it didn't find any. You can then select "Other" and enter the IP address.

what may help is to assign a static ip address to the computer you're syncing with so it always has the same ip address, in xp you can go to your connection, right click and go to status, click properties, double ckick on tcp/ip and put your ip info in there, or have your router assign the same ip address to your computer through dhcp

This is not practical if you need to be able to connect to routers other than your own. Each one may support different IP address ranges or the static address you choose may conflict with other computers. That's the whole purpose of DHCP.

I don't find it to be a major problem, I'm just trying to give jla781 a work-around that works for me. It would be nice though to figure out why I (and others) can't hotsync to the PC by name. I've seen this complaint often, so there must be a fundimental problem that Palm didn't take into account. I also know it works properly for many, so you have to wonder what's different between our machines. For example, is it only an issue for people with Norton or Mcafee firewalls, or people doing file sharing? Or maybe it's a router issue. I just don't know, and the amount of work it might take to figure it out is more than I'm willing to invest considering that, other than inconsistent WIFI hotsyncing, I have a stable and reliable setup.

I was never able to get my T|X to Wi-Fi Hotsync my T|X to my desktop using the desktop name -- I always had to use the IP address. It's not a big thing because the T|X Wi-Fi will list that workstations IP address in the drop-down list, so it's not like you have to guess or find out what it is. It is a bit annoying though. Nothing changed when I manually entered the DNS in the Wi-Fi config either.

What's weird though, is my T|C Wi-Fi Hotsyncs by computer name EVERY time. No problems whatsoever.
