Why would the cd player in an '04 Honda Civic EX stop working?

I have a 2004 Honda Civic EX. Just recently the cd player (which is stock) stopped working. In the middle of playing a cd. Now when I put anything in it says 'loading' and the cd just comes right back out. About a week before that though, if I hit the cd player when it cut out, then it would start working again. Why would this happen? Is it a short in some wire, or could it be that I need to get one of those cd player cleaner things??

Thanks....its driving me crazy not being able to listen to my cds :(
