Why would someone sue me back once Pre-Trial is scheduled?

I'm suing "AN ATTORNEY" ;)
For a small amount- fees & damages for some legal service they didn't complete. Looks like they got a hold of the judge (they know her) & got her to set us for pre-trial. Once the pre-trial was scheduled, they went ahead & decided to sue saying I told people not to do business with them in a "Rip off Report" I filed against them.

1) What could be the reason they pushed for pre-trial? Are they trying to make it look more of an agreement than a loss?
2) Why would they decide to sue me right after we got scheduled? Are they trying to get a little on the offensive so they can get some kinda agreement or look better in front of the judge?
3) Do they have the right to sue me over a rip off report? Don't I have the legal right to file such a CONSUMER report?

Thanks!

Your details are limited. But here goes:
1. Pre trial is where they investigate YOU. In other words, you must have never been in trouble or something to your credit as they wanted to push these positive attributes towards you, which helps in the overall trial or might make grounds for a deal so no one actually went to trial. Usually, if you got a decent person, they push for a pretrail investigation.
2. Who knows why they do what they do.
3. Yes, you have the legal right to file a consumer report, but to be held accountable is first, everything you claim has to be true, even to the point of being able to verify, validate and justify your claims. If it is a lie or fabrication and it cost them damages, they can sue. Those are the rules. Remember, not only can they sue if it is a lie, but they have to have incurred DAMAGES as a result of your filing. many people forget that stipulation.
