Why would someone steal my suzuki swift instead of an expensive car?

I live in a street which has BMWs, SUVs and all kinds of cars parked in the street. The other morning we woke up to find our car stolen - it was 20k when we bought it and 1.5 years old. It had an immobiliser. They broke the back window to get in. I just don't understand why they would steal such an inexpensive car rather than one of the pricey ones. If they are professional enough to get past an immobiliser then why not steal a BMW or Audi? Or if they wanted a crappy car for a ram raid - why not steal the old bomb next door? Mine had a child seat and stroller and baby shoes inside - just seems so mean! I get paranoid and wonder if it was someone I pissed off targeting us....

I often wonder the same thing... How someone could see you have a family you need to support and not even consider the fact that you need your car, worked hard for it and not only are they stealing from you but from a baby.

I lived in Seattle and San Francisco and dealt with that crap ALL the time...

I do not know where you live but in my experience it's some crack head looking for a easy car to steal to either run from the law in and get from point A to B or make quick cash from.

Perhaps the COULD steal a BMW... but not only might it be harder to steal (a lot of nevew luxury cars have computer chips in the key and have a lot of hi-tech anti theft stuff) but... it is also more conspicuous and would be harder to sell if they're stealing it for that purpose.

Also with the higher tech cars they could take it apart and sell the parts but some of the pieces on those cars actually are really only able to be touched by a professional or dealer, some parts have specialized tools or keys that only a dealer will carry.

So some crook or crack head won't be able to take the car apart to sell as parts...

Some jerks will steal ANYTHING...

We had ONE shoe, a flash light and a can of camp fuel stolen out of my husband's truck...

My MIL had her house broken in to and they went through her cabinets and stole her medication and a few odd things.... (crack heads)

It pisses me off because we WORK hard for our things... They are literally stealing food from your kids mouth! And some selfish, lazy prick comes along and with almost no effort and no remorse or no thought as to how it will hurt you and comes and take your hard earned belongings from you.

I am sorry to say but you know what else is going to suck? The fees the police will charge to tow and impound and process your car when they find it... Along with the new license plates you will HAVE to get... Anytime a car is stolen you must replace the licese plates (at least here in WA, but I'm pretty sure it's everywhere.)

I am sorry this happened, do you have insurance for that? If you do then they will cover all of that and even and damage to the car.

Anyway, good luck... I hope things turn out okay! Let me know when they catch the dirt bags!

most people figure it to be less suspicious driving around in a stolen car that isnt as expensive... most people believe the cops would check the tags on a more expensive car before they would a clunker... but either way.. you drive wrecklessly your going to get pulled over so... there was no point to take that car if they could get past a security system like that..
