why would my check engine light ('97 honda accord lx) come on?

i just changed the spark plugs/wires and my check engine light has come on. the car has 180k miles and i just drove it 1900 miles from arkansas to california. the check engine light is on and i have oil in the area where the spark plugs are. what could be wrong and how can it be fixed? thanks!
 
could be hundreds of things get it scanned. the oil on the plugs is because you need to replace the valve cover gasket and gromets. whether or not that be related to the cel who knows
 
it could be a bazillion things lol.. it could be ur gas cap needs to be tightened.. some cars the engine light just goes on and you cant turn it off lol... a piece of electric tape will get rid of it lmao
