why would my 95 ford ranger shut down while driving and after 5 minutes or so start up.?

while driving it will feel like the truck shuts down.. it is still on like the radio and electronics work but it will bog down until the engines hits 0 rpm then the truck will die. if i hit the gas it will run but bog still to 0 rpm if i dont the truck will coast to 0 rpm and die.the auto steering shuts off. then if you wait long enough it will start again. it hasnt been long since the last oil change and air filter change. i dont want to spend the money on something that wouldnt help it...
