Why would God not want want Adam and Eve to eat from the tree of knowledge?

Does anyone else find it funny that God wanted to keep his so called "creations," in the dark and deny them their basic curiosty and strive for knowledge. Why would he punish those who try to learn something new and question what they were told. How could Human knowledge ever expand and grow if we never tried to challenge the way we see things. If people always just blindly followed what they were told... well, the earth would still be the centre of the Universe and i would still be going to church.

Knowledge is branded by the bible as evil and against God, (by the model of the Garden of Eden -aka Gods supposed undistorted plan of earth) and if humans have a desire for knowledge and natural curiosty - God can than be stated to be against humanity. I just want to know why it seems like no one else around here can connect the forbidden dots.

For someone who claims that knowledge is a good thing, you clearly have very little of it.

That's because the tree was not the "tree of knowledge," as you claim. It was the "Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil." If you'd bothered to read a Bible or even hammer "tree of knowledge" into Google, you'd have known that.

The story isn't about preventing knowledge, it's about Adam and Eve making a decision to put their own will first, instead of God's. It was rebellion, not information seeking.

I LOVE the irony of your question, however!

I have a hard time believing this story because if Adam and Eve ate from the tree of knowledge AND had time to go make clothes afterwards, some of their newfound knowledge should've kicked in and told them to eat from the tree of life also since it was apparently not too far away. Then they would've never died and still known good and bad. I think this story is about as credible as Pandora's Box. Either way God didn't want them being too smart, he wanted blind allegiance according to Genesis which I guess is a good set up for the rest of the Bible because it'd keep any freethinkers in check and stop them from thinking on their own or risk loosing the favour of God.
