Why would any parent want to provoke a child to rebellion or argument just so

they can punish them ? Some scenarios I'm thinking of that could provoke rebellion by the parents themselves:

1. Failure to grant rewards at the time promised even though the conditions were met.

2. Extending punishments beyond what was orinally given. One I read about was that a child was grounded for two weeks and after the period was completed and no new misbehavior happened the child headed for the door to go outside, the father asked where he was going and the child said outside and the time was up, the father then growled back and said "Two weeks is up when I say it's up"

3. Saying no to a request just for the sake of saying no. Example, he asks if he can play croquet and the parent says no even though all homework and chores had been completed.

4. Giving punishments way out of proportion to the offense. One I heard about was a child was grounded to his bedroom for one qweek for failing to mow the yard.

5. Making a statement the parent knows to be factually false so as to provoke the child to argument and then yelling at them for it.
