Why would an evil snake be in a perfect garden?

The whole "7 day creation myth" is a metaphor to remind Jews to observe the Sabbath as well as to take a whack at Paganism for the fact that Pagans have multiple gods and goddesses who were given credit for creating things such as the Earth, the moon, the stars, the ocean and everything in it while the author was getting across that there was one God who created everything and not multiple gods. As well there are some whacks at Paganism in there as well. For instance Eve coming from Adam's rib was designed to show that women are and were made to be equal to men unlike the way Pagans thought of women as property at the time. The serpent bit is another whack at Paganism as Pagans saw the serpent as divine and having healing powers. The Tower Of Babel incident is another one as there are others as well. It's all a literary form and not meant to be taken literally.

The evil snake is wisdom from experience, to eat an apple is the same thing, Eve didn't actually eat the apple, in all things God created a balance it is up to you to choose which to follow.
