I was involved in a situation at work. I was a cashier and a customer accused me of stealing her wallet. I did have her wallet, it had some money in it and I did take $20. I then turned in the wallet to management stating I found the wallet. I know, I know...why would I even do this? Because I'm stupid. But anyways, the customer said she wants to press charges on me because she had more money in her wallet along w/a check card. I only took $20. I did not charge anything to her card. Management said they have me on camera concealing it in my pocket. They also would not tell me how much money the customer is saying she had in her wallet. Anyways, make a long story short...the other day I saw a cop sitting outside my house. I ran upstairs and looked out the window to see what was going to happen. I never saw the cop exit the car. Never heard the cop knock on my door, or ring my doorbell. What would the cop be doing at my house? Why would a cop come to my house but not knock on my door, ring my doorbell, or even leave me anything on my door or in my mailbox? What kind of issues might I be facing? What should I do? I know taking the $20 was wrong. I am a good person, normally. I have no idea what came over me when I did this crime and I feel terrible now. I do not know the customer, didn't even see the customer so I have no way of even contacting the customer to make things right. Could I be arrested on the spot for stealing $20 even though there is no evidence of me stealing the money? Or would the cop just maybe want to issue me papers? I am just concerned on why the cop was at my house in the first place.
So, bottom line...why would a cop come to my house and not knock on my door or leave me anything. Is that even legal?
