Why would a 3-year old Mazda CRX with 30 thousand miles go up in smoke?

No trouble lights came on--smoke and steam just started billowing out from under the hood and them the car stopped running.
Sorry, it's my daughter-in-law's car--it's a CX-9.
It's at the dealers.

First off, I don't believe Mazda makes a CRX, so you may want to go back and edit that. To answer your question, the radiator probably overheated. Wait for it to cool down, and pour some antifreeze into the radiator to top it off.

i believe the engine overheated and now it it may be ruined. but you need someone to look at it at least.
