Why won't TV display my PS3?

I have had a PS2 for many years and never had any problems with it and my TV. I just plug in the mains and the AV and it works.

I have just got a PS3, brand new. I've plugged in the mains as well as the AV and switched on the PS3. However, when I go to AV1 or AV2 or any of the channels on my TV, nothing comes up. Why? Am i doing something wrong.

Help muchhh appreciated.
I have not got a plasma or an LCD TV, just a standard TV. I have connected everything as i did with the PS2 and i think I've followed all the procedures correctly. PS2 works fine. The actual PS3 starts up and everything but nothing shows up on the TV.
I have also tried holding down the power button til it beeps and putting it back on and still nothing has changed
 
hmm, you may be putting the wrong wires into the wrong sockets. The ps3 may work on AV but it usually works much better on an HD cord which will connect to most new plasma tvs. my suggestion is try the sockets you used for the ps2 when it worked and see if it works. good luck.
