Why won't Toyota offer a 4WD Tacoma with an automatic trans with the 2.7 4cyl. engine?

I have a 2002 Tacoma 2WD with the 2.7 and automatic trans and it has plenty of power.To get auto trans with 4WD you have to get a 6 cyl.All 4cy 4WD Tacoma's are manual trans.Why?
 
No one knows why, but trust me I hear this question atleast once a week. I wish they made a 4wd automatic 4 cylinder tacoma. the 6 isn't to bad on gas.

The 4WD system is not compatible with manual transmission; yet it is compatible with permanent 4WD, like Audi's "quattro" system.
