This is a one owner car. Hadn't had any problems with it. All of sudden it wouldn't crank/start. Bought a new battery. That didn't fix the problem. It drained in less than 24 hours. This has gone on for more than six months. The mechanic can't find the problem. It's been in an d out of the shop. Would any of you have any advice or a link to Toyota's manual? I would appreciate any and all input. Thanks.

Try taking it some where else. The guy your using is missing something somewhere! Just because the battery is new doesn't mean it's good! If you have access to another battery for just a weekend you might solve you own problem!

You got 2 action
1. Check your alternator or battery cable
2. Buy a new car! This cars is from 1993 when Bill Clinton was president a long long time ago! You know from 1996-2001 during the Clinton/Gore administation we built the worst cars in the usa especially the Ford Explorer! Google it!

Couple of things come to mind.
1. The ground cable, where it bolts to the engine block may need to be cleaned (rust / dirt / grease / oil) will/could cause this problem. Remove, clean and reinstall.

2. Not sure what type of alternator you have but.... you could have a bad alternator/regulator or one with a separate regulator. You should first clean all the "spade" connectors and surfaces that are connected to the regulator with light sand paper, use long nose pliers to squeeze the spade connectors so that they will fit tighter and reconnect.

Even though you bought a new battery, are the old positive and negative cables in good shape? If none of the above worked you may want to clean the ends of the cables and maybe change them out.

Last but not least, you need a better mechanic. Did he check for resistant grounds that may be drawing down the battery. One way to check is to take off the positive battery terminal (at night when its dark) and tap it onto the battery terminal and see if you get a spark.
