Why won't my stereo play my iPod?

I have a stereo that plays the iPod through the place where you charge it. I have had no problems up until now and I cannot find my manual. I will put my iPod on the place were it plays, press play, and it won't make a sound. I have no idea what is wrong with it. I've unplugged it and even undid the speakers and put them in again. Do you know what could be wrong?

I have the Sharp XL-DK255
It's plugged in and everything, and I have the nano chromatic.
