why won't my ps3 play disk games, not even ps2 or ps1 games?

when i put a disk in, it sucks it in like it normally would, the light that shows there is a disk in there goes blue, there is a loading orb next to the date and time for a few seconds, and then it disappears and no matter how long i wait it will nor register the disk.
it will still play downloaded games
my ps3 is the original 60 GB hard drive model with 4 USB slots
i have tried with 5 different disks, even Bioshock, which i got yesterday
