i recently got a 1989/90 kawasaki ex 500cc street bike, its a twin cylinder, 8valve twin cam liquid cooled motor, has 14,000 miles, new battery, when i turn the key on all lights work horn works, when i try to start it it only clicks at the starter cylonoid, i tried doing it with the kick stand up and down, i tried starting it with the clutch out and pulled in, i've tried it in gear and out, i was told its the starter, but before i spend the money on a new one i wanna make sure, is there a way to test the cylonoid? any outher sugestions i can try? whats the easiest way to jump it in gear on flat land with no hills around? it started on a down hill jump start if that helps.

it's not recommended to jump start the bike as the shock can cause you to lay it down. you can get a multimeter and check the voltage going to the solenoid to see if it's getting power and just not functioning.

jump the solenoid with a heavy gauge wire it will start right up or jump start it in second gear. if junping the solenoide doesnt work its the starter

Check that battery again. My motorcycle makes a clicking sound when the battery isn't putting out enough cold cranking amps. Use your digital multimeter and make sure the battery is more than 12 volts.
