Why wont my jeep run right?

I bought a new battery about 8 months ago and i parked my jeep for quite some time and i started it up today (with the assistance of a jump start) and the idle runs really rough and when i shifted it into gear it nearly died, i had to pump the gas pedal to keep it running. it has about a 1/4 tank of gas and it had a main seal leak but i fixed that and now its running kinda crappy on me. Do you think that it could be a vacuum problem or is it my PCV system. Please help.!!! also low on money so i cant take it to a mechanic to get a over priced fix that i could have done myself.
its a 1987 jeep grand cherokee laredo 4X4 and its got over 1,000,000 miles on it so if that helps at all.
it also has fuel treatment in it so the fuel cant be the problem

Well. It could be a vacuum leak or PVC valve sticking. Remove the PVC valve & shake it,if you hear it rattle its ok if not replace it.With the engine running spray some carb cleaner on the vacuum lines ,if the idle changes there's your leak.(make sure not to spray it on the dist). Also you didn't say where you lived. Since its been parked so long,if you're in the hot part of the country your gas might of gone bad from sitting. Try filling it with fresh gas and run it for a while.

i don't really know what to tell ya could be your alternator or a bad battery or something, start your jeep open the hood and disconnect your battery if your car dies then its your alternator if it keeps running its the battery
