Why wont my bluetooth work with my PS3?

I just bought a PS3 bluetooth headset, Ive let it charge for the 3 hours like it said but it doesnt want to work with my game. It says that its connected and everything, but doesnt show the battery life or volume. It works with my phone so its not the device. Has anyone had this problem??
