why wont my 1985 pontiac fiero start?

i have a 1985 pontiac fiero gt its manual 4 speed and tthe car started to die if i didnt have it reved high so i replaced the distributor cap and when i did it wouldnt start tryed putting the old one on but that didnt work tryed replacing the distributor it self and that didnt work and i replaced the rotor on the distributor so i dont know what to do i try to start the car and its as if there is no gas in it but when i move the distributor around while someones reving the keys itll back fire so i think the problem lies in the distributer but am not sure
i guess its 1-2-3-4-5-6 Distributor rotates clockwise.

but im not sure where one is but since it rotates clock wise i fig its the spark plug that if you were looking at the engine itd be the back left one and then itd go the middle back one and the right back one and then the right front one and so on if i understand that right... and as for the plug do i take the wire off from the engine or from the distributor cap

it sounds like the firing order is off or your distributer is not in right. find a layout of your firing order, then take the number one plug out and stink your thumb ver the hole while someone taps the engine over. when the air pushes your thumb off your engine is at tdc (top dead center). take your distsibutor cap off and see if your rotr is pointing toward your number one plug wire, make a mark on the base of your disributor and put your cap on, if the mark lines up with the number one wire that means your timing is right. to check for spark you need to take a timing light and hook it up so that when someone is trying to crank the car you should point it at the balancer located on the front of your motor, be sure to hook your timing light to the number one plug on the distributor cap, once again have someone turn the motr over while hold the trigger and point it at the balancer you should see a line on the balancer indicating that the timing is right. srry its long but i try to help
