Why wont a 1996 honda passports 4wd work?

My parents have a 1996 honda passport. When we start the car the 4WD light comes on and goes off. If we shift into 4WD no light comes on. The shifter is smooth and if we put it in 4LOW it acts as if its in a low gear as normal. I was just wondering how we can fix the 4WD. Is it a vacumn line or something more complex? Thanks
 
Your Honda Passport has a Electronic 4wheel drive switch that is enabled by a solenoid the solenoid is probably bad the best place to get that repaired is the Honda dealer not AMMCO!!!
