why won't 4th gen ipod touch jailbreak?

earlier I tried to jailbreak my ipod touch on 4.2.1 software using Greenpois0n. the first attempt didn't work and on the second try it put me on the screen that said connect to itunes like it does when you first pull it out the box. I had to leave it hooked up to my computer for 20 minutes before I could use it again. should I try again I'm scared and don't wanna mess up my device..i know I'm doing everything right
