Why will my 99' Ford Ranger 4X4 brakes lock up?

My brakes will lock up, sometimes just for a second, then will kind of jet me forward, or will lock up for a couple seconds, before sputtering to a stop. Would this be something with my anti-locks or something else? Not very experienced with brake problems, so could use some input. Thanks
 
disc or drum???
front disc?? could be piston hanging up, not releasing properly
drum?? could be groved drums catching sides of shoe??
get it checked quick!!!!!!
