Why were those that were found guilty of torture punished following the world wars?

and some people find it prudent to torture detainees in something that isn't close to the scale of a world war and not even close to the casualties or stakes?
 
Not all those found guilty in WWII where punished ie: Japanese commander in China/Korea, that used biological warfare on civilians and captured soldiers. He later became the head of a huge multinational medical company. Several Germans where brought to the US to assist with the space program, their past buried and gone. Yes, the US, Britain and more so Russians tortured. The Russians talked about it several years ago, they took captured germans, tortured them, once they talked they would be taken away to be shot or hung. The level of torture the US is alleged to have done in Iraq, is tame in comparison.
 
Iit often also depended on which side won and which side lost.

Many Brit and American torturers during the World Wars were seen as patriots doing their duty.
 
That was before the Bush Regime- who got away with "re-defining" many concepts and words and traditions and Constitutional amendments during their eight years of terror.
 
Because they committed atrocities; burning people alive, beheadings, starvation, dismemberment, etc. Not blowing smoke in someone's face. HUGE difference.
