...to do so? Either they weren't really Europeans or they were really afraid.

The British colonist's (invaders) first priority was to destroy the local cultures.

They failed only because the Chinese and Indians were so stubborn about retaining their heritage.

Read up on India during the time Ghandi was leader. The British were hellishly violent and persistent, but their efforts failed.

The Chinese had underground secret groups that sabotaged British efforts to steal and destroy from the people. British were responsible for selling opium to the Chinese. To make a ton of money and also weaken their will.

There was resistance, strong resistance against the euro invasions.

Eventually most whites were driven out of both China and India.
