Why were people in the olden days live such unhealthy lifestyles?

aside from ur worthless avatar and others calling you a repititious troll whats wrong with playing outside oh yeh you said dirty ...... maybe you should go to aa meetings are you trying to anihalate the world? alotta people still smoke cigarettes stupid.......... fraggle rock .......woodstock is a little yellow bird in charlie brown cartoons... and no child is ever ever ever unsupervised GOD watches us ALL so nanananananana SO did parents and neighbor hood adults someone always kept an eye on every ones childs safety.... YGG YGG shes right ...

The children were allowed to play OUTSIDE and UNSUPERVISED! they played in dirt, climbed dirty trees, swam in dirty sea water and even built tree houses from dirty wood (ugh all the germs)

A lot of people smoked cigarettes.

They ate allot of junk food like white bread (which they spread with real butter), bacon, eggs, lard, coca cola made with real cane sugar, coffee for breakfast and then again during a break (too much caffeine is bad)
When I say olden days I mean anything before Woodstock (1968)

Yes I and my friends did play outside ( unsupervised) . What did we have to be afraid of back then?
when someone was a pervert they were no where near where we lived in a very safe , very small town. When we were very young we stayed in our own neighbor hood! We were allowed to go further as we grew older. We were always safe.
Our lakes and ponds , ( could have been dirty) don't really know, but no one ever got sick after swimming! Most of the time, ( when it was hot, we got cooled off with a galvanized tub full of water.
that was So much fun, the summing pools of today can not compare!
We had several tree houses, Who told you the wood was dirty and full of germs. Loved those tree houses , we also had abandoned sheds etc.. where we had club houses. Fun, Fun We were wild and free and the only limit to fun was our imaginations!
We had water back then to get clean, It may have been a sponge bath, ( not in a tub) but it took the dirt and germs off of us. then we went to bed in a nice clean bed with sheets that were dried outside, smelled so good!
The food we ate back then was not junk food it was natural foods. Manufactured foods and synthetic foods are not necessarily good for you!
You sounded like my kids, You say olden days ( before Woodstock) They use Too ask me about the olden days and referred to them as prehistoric days!LOL

Long ago a lot of children had rickets, meaning their legs were shaped as if they were on a horse for years.
That was because they were not getting the right food to eat and drink.
1946 School Milk Act
After the passing of the 1906 Education Act Local Education Authorities were empowered to provide free school meals. In 1921 this had been extended to free milk.
This made a big difference to the children's health.

It was very healthy back then, at least we got to go OUTSIDE and played..and how can you call yourself a HIPPIE if you don't know what it was like?..As for the food we did not have junk food or had restaurants like they do now and we ate healthy food and homemade food too..as for the bread, we had all kinds of bread to eat..check out your resources ..=)

Keep in mind, that those days before Woodstock, we didn't have the wide variety of
junk food that's available today. Or the added chemicals put into ready made foods
that came frozen and had to be baked in an oven, that preserved the food. We did
have tv dinners and pot pies, but not the assorted easy to heat products of today.
We also didn't have many fast food drive ins, back then. So they didn't have near
the chemicals and added taste enhancers we now have added in many forms. Now
we don't have the genuine true form of many foods. We have imitations, and more
sodium to increase flavor added to those. None of those chemicals to preserve
foods and enhance flavor, are good for us. No, just the opposite.
The only foods you can be sure of today, is fresh produce. Even our meat has
been treated on the hoof prior to slaughter. No, I disagree, on the comments made.
People tended to eat healthier prior to the 60's. Before things were added, and
which today, may be at the root of so many cancers.

What are you talking about in the olden days...people still do all that stuff today...btw you sound like a paranoid freak! Good luck with your weirdness!

Yea, and they were happy! All that bad food tasted GOOOOD! Playing in the dirt was so much fun and didn't seem to have too much of an adverse effect on me. I remember when I was in teenager my parents somehow got involved in some cholesterol study and had to give up a lot of the types of foods they often ate. No more pork bacon, we had turkey bacon that tasted so bland dad said mom should just stop doing bacon altogether. They replaced butter with oleo (which years later was found to be even worse for your health then butter). They could only eat one egg a week. No more sugar in your coffee so they switched to saccharin. It lasted maybe 6 months until dad had has enough and told mom that she didn't have to go back and cook the old way but he needed more flavor in his life so she'd have to decide what to bring back in as bad as the doctors at that time thought they were. Funny, now a lot of those "bad" foods are being touted as far better for you then the substitutes. And kids that are not exposed to basic dirt and filth never develop resistances making them weaker beings. However, our refrigerator stopped cooling a few weeks ago and the repair guy could come for 6 days...and it was difficult going without refrigeration. Made me wonder how people (not so very long ago either) lived without reliable refrigeration. How could they rely on ice boxes to keep perishables sufficiently cold to not develop poisoning bacteria? If you didn't eat everything every meal, did they have to throw a lot of food away (we did during that 6 days)? Oddly, the thing I missed most was cold water to drink--I don't like ice in my water so keep a couple pitchers of filtered water in the frig and boy did I miss that chilled water.
