It's because of the excessive fashions. People dressing up in fishnet tank tops, spandex pants and spraying their overabundant heads of hair with a gallon of aquanet was par for the course in the 80s. It was considered a "cool" look back then, just like every decade has its "cool" sense of fashion. The 90s had it, and even this decade has had that (believe it or not). Every era has experienced it, and every era henceforth will continue the tradition of conforming to time-sensitive fashion trends. The cold, hard fact is that the generation growing up right now is gonna soon look back at this era and wonder, "Why were people in the '00's so weird-looking?" It's kind of an endless cycle. The brightside is that I think our weirdest fashion eras are behind us. Some of the fashions we wear now will be passé, but not because they were kitschy or cheesy... but because the times evolve. And things have to keep being fresh or else societal life and pop culture would become monotonous and stale.
