1. Corporal Punishment was used in the home and school
2. Fathers were authority figures to be respected and not questioned.
3. Children were playing outside and unsupervised for hours, sometimes until it was dark; they were camping in woods alone, climbing trees, swimming in lakes, riding bikes without helmets and pads and using dangerous tools to build tree houses!
4. Mothers spent their days baking; cookies, pie, brownies etc all are junk food (full of fat and sugar) and were fed to children quite often. Plus their meals were high in red meat, fat, diary and carbs; very unhealthy and fattening.
5. Children as young as 15 were made to get jobs and even young kids had to do chores.
6. They were brought up to believe that sex is for marriage and making them feel guilty for having natural desires.
7. Parents gave teens as old as 16 curfews and a set bedtime.
8. Children were disciplined just for swearing or questioning authority.
9. They HAD to sit at a table and eat breakfast, lunch and dinner with the whole family; not only that they had to eat ALL food on their plates (what if they weren't hungry?) They were also punished for not washing their hands before meals (did all parents have OCD back then?)
10. They were forced to go to church every Sunday, read from the Bible and pray to be thankful for what they had (at home and at school!) and were disciplined for questioning for criticizing religion.
Disagree all you want but all I have mentioned sounds like child abuse rather than parenting. Which is why I am glad I grow up in the 21st century!
