why was i constantly getting beat up in Marine boot camp just because i couldnt fit in?

why one of my junior drill instructors choked me and punched me over dropping my brass in shoe polish? (was in 30 years ago). why when i went for chow, i was eyeballing the area, why did my drill instructor whispered in my ear that i was done eating before i took one bite? is this illegal denying a recruity his or her meal? why i had more trouble in Marine boot camp than any other recruits?
