Why undermine the sex offender registry by placing nude protesters on it?

The World Naked Bike Ride is today for the northern hemisphere. It is a protest against overuse of co2 emitting vehicles. Here' my beef. I read some article that stated Boulder, CO police would arrest nude participants, and they would have to register as sex offenders if convicted. Here's my beef. Even if you disagree with nude protests, and you think the law should penalize them, why not have the penalty be a fine? Doesn't this sort of thing undermine the integrity of the sex offender registry? People will be able to say "sure, that guy's a sex offender, but maybe he really didn't do anything wrong." I'd like to be able to know that the registry is reserved for REAL perverted criminals. BTW, I personally think the nude bike ride should be protected speech.
Buddy. The nudity is obviously a tactic to get attention. You are simply wrong. The protesters are NOT pervs just for being nude. It's your attitude that causes body shame for so many young people.
Speech is anything that has a message as content, including dress.
 
i can tell you, being on that regiter is awesome. it opened lots of doors for me. you should try it, it'll be the best thing you ever do
 
The Sex Offender Registry isn't what it's purported to be anyway. No one is able to name a single crime that the registry has prevented but there are many documented cases of crimes being committed because the victim was on the registry.

The FBI tells us that sex offenders (except adult victim rapists for some reason) are the least likely to re-offend of all offenders.

It's just a political feel-good action: no politician has ever lost an election for being tough on crime. It makes the populace feel good without having any actual effect and it gives the cops a reason to inflate their budget.
 
Being nude has nothing to do with CO2 emissions. They are just a bunch of perverts wanting little kids to see them naked.

Speech is words. Written, spoken, or signed. Not getting naked in front of kids or others who don't want to see you naked.
