Why UAW would not buy out GM, Ford, and Chrysler, and run them as they please, and

leave taxpayers alone? Current market capitalization of GM (the largest of three) is about $3 billion. This amounts to
$3 billion / 300,000 UAW members =
= $10,000 per UAW member.

I am pretty much sure that their retirement fund alone has many times more money in it. So why UAW would not buy out their own employers, and run them as they please, and negotiate their labor contracts themselves against themselves.

If I could buy out my share of my employer for a price of 3 month salary, I would do it at once, and be my own boss. As I am sure many of you would also do so.
 
Good idea. Or why don't the auto makers go to big oil for a bailout? They need each other and big oil made trillions this year.
