Tithing are Indulgences for the twenty first century,I am going to nail a few papers on a few church doors,!!!God bless us always whether we tithe or not,He owns everything not just ten percent.Bob Tench in his book said that a man had tithed all his life and when he was in need guess what, no help from his church, where are the examples of churches helping the widows and orphans? as the bible says to do!.. Tithes are just used to build bigger churches, to get more money from more poor saps,Yes the old testament does says look after the Levites, the Pastors and family,Malachi 3 means to bring the stores into the storehouse, used by the whole community in times of famine, through the door and not sneak in over the wall so didn't have to pay tax.The bible says salvation is free,we don't need to pay a church board just to hedge our bets,in fact someone who tried to pay for the power was not allowed.

the church (whichever one you're talking about) has no real means of income.
if you want to be a member of 'X' denomination then |I presume you want ot have a place to meet and worship, you want it to be repaired, decorated, have chairs, pews and tables, etc
if you have a paid ministry in your denomination, i presume you want to carry on with that

so... how else does the church pay for all those things?

We should express our gratitude to God by offering ourselves as living sacrifices. That is, we put aside our plans, preferences, opinions, ambitions and so on, making ourselves fully available to God. Also, we should consider all of our money and possessions as belonging to God, to be used for His purposes.

This puts us in a powerful position. Submitted to God, we can resist the devil. Walking in the Spirit, our instinct is in line with God's Will for us, which is always to our benefit and leads to an abundant, fulfilled life.

As far as our finances and possessions are concerned, we should be open handed with them. That means giving generously to those in need cheerfully and without hesitation.

Although the old testament does have the law, and giving the tithe is a part of that, I believe that Jesus teaches us to be even more generous. He goes to the trouble to point out the lady who puts all that she has in the pot and commends her for it. In my experience, we cannot 'out-give' God, whatever I give, and this is not just to the church but to other charitable concerns, God is pleased with my offering and has promised to meet all my needs. Giving comes from being secure in that promise, not holding onto my money but caring enough for the poor. If you belong to a church that does not use your money to bless others, then change churches!

ok now go live like the new testament believers did and give everything you have away...

btw church boards are against how God set up the church to run... and how the priests were personally supported through a giving of 1/40th of their income

To pay the bills and wages and to do charity work and outreach work overseas. Money doesn't grow on trees and it sounds like your brothers and sisters are already covering your 10%.
