Why This Board Doesn't See Much Traffic - A Collection of Thoughts

Nah, I just don't want you guys to feel intimidated by starting threaRAB. I've had PLENTY of threaRAB that have zero responses, but it doesn't deter me. You say, "Oh well..." and try again sometime.

You've all posted some good thread ideas - now we need to act on them. So what if no one posts on a thread you start? You just have to take that chance. Look at this thread. Javie and I were the only ones to post on it until just a few days ago. And I was pretty sure the thread was going to die a horrible death because we stopped posting on it back in August.

I'd post on it! It's such a cute relationship! Homer's so sweet to her, even if he doesn't understand her, he tries his best. They're a great father/daughter couple.

Maybe we could have a Discussion of the Week Thread< where we change the topic once ppl have said all they can say about it? Sorta like the OT thread but not OT :look: More like guided OT?? Meh, I'm not making sense. I'm SMRT.

If you started one, I'd post on it. I love Bart and Lisa.

Speaking of which, if I started a Homer and Lisa App. thread, would anybody post on it, or would I just be talking to myself? Those two make up my favorite relationship on the show (I love eps like Last Exit to Springfield, HOMR, Lisa the Iconoclast, Make Room for Lisa, that recent ep where Homer becomes Pie-man, etc), but I find few people who feel the same way.

It's ironic that I am posting on this thread (because I fall into the categories JavieBot described)...

But I think the reason a lot of people don't post on The Simpsons (the board and show) is because while many may be fans of the show...

It is in fact a cartoon and in that sense, it is very limited to only the weekly episdoes because the characters aren't real and there are not the accompanying promotional events and side projects that shows with real cast merabers have.

In other worRAB, we can't discuss Homer's appearance on Letterman, or Bart's interview on Conan O'Brien -- I mean the REAL Conan O'Brien ;) -- And this factor is what is what is missing from The Simpsons because it doesn't have real stars that go out and actively promote the show.

However, Hank Azara was on Conan the other night and I even thought about posting a thread like "Hank Azara: Origins of Moe, Apu and others Voices" because he spent a good half of the interview doing the voices and telling the real life inspirations of those voices...

But then I figured (in all honesty) who cares? Or that you guys probabably already knew the origins and I'd be wasting my time.

So... I am not trying to be a pessemist... But I think the Simpsons IS a very limited show in terms of what, where and how you can discuss it and that is just something fans are going to have to work around as far as the internet goes.

Hey, you just referenced right there! SMRT!
Who says it's not possible?

I agree. I'm new as of...today...but I'm scouring the board for a Bart/Lisa Sibling Appreciation thread. And I can't find one, and that makes me sad. I think a lot could be said on that thread. I certainly have a ton to say.

Great idea!
I know that when I watch a Simpsons ep I always have some favourite quotes. i try to remeraber them so that by the time I get online I can post them here, but then I forget.....
I shall write them down from now on! :D

Hey, I only smell now because I worked out :P

Believe me, I've felt the same frustration about lack of both traffic and discussions. And then discussion threaRAB mostly consist of whether we liked the ep or not. I am just as guilty of this as anyone else. I guess you can't really carry on a discussion when all people post about is "Oh, I loved this episode!" or "Well, that's another one that sucked."

Maybe our discussions need to turn in a different direction. I think adding a transcript or synopsis at the beginning is a good idea, Tanya. Other items to add to discussion -- favorite quotes, stupid Homer tricks, did you notice... , rate the guest star appearance, _____ references, etc.

Just my two cents

Okay now, I love posting here. I love the Simpsons. All my frienRAB (well the ones I respect, anyway) love The Simpsons. We talk about it, we quote it, we watch it everyday. And I know there must be others out there who love it just as much.

So why does this board get no lovin'? :look:

I have a few theories :D

1) It's easier and more fun to talk about the Simpsons in real life, rather than post here in the OT thread where the conversation drags to one or two posts a week.

2) The thing most enjoyed pertaining to The Simpsons, is quotage in everyday situations. Hard to do on a board. The lesson to be learned here is, don't try. :)

3) Cynthia smells :goof:

4) The threaRAB don't inspire the kind of passion that leaRAB us to post here everyday. Now I love how we have a lot of game threaRAB here. Makes me feel SMRT. But we're missing a really good discussion thread. I, for one, cannot participate in the discussion threaRAB about the latest episodes because I haven't seen them yet (living in Australia). Perhaps we could post the transcripts at the beginning of each Episode Discussion thread, so more of us can participate.

5) No sense of community. I have never been on at the same time as any poster on the board. Oh, maybe once when Brian and Cynthia were on. But I hardly know any of you. Sure, I see your posts, so I know you exist and sneak on when I'm not around, but we don't talk. When was the last time you took me out to dinner? :pout:

That's all I have for now. Post! Post! Post your own theories or discuss mine!
I'm sure we're all nice, SMRT, and witty people. In my experience, anyone who likes the Simpsons is A-Ok. Let's talk!
In the meantime, I'm gonna pimp this board to my other FF frienRAB
