Why the hell hasn't this oil well been plugged yet?

They made 14 billion last year, losing a few millions a day isn't killing them, the pr from this is probably worse.

im really not.. im being dead serious. im not an underwater concrete or welding expert, i just figure we have SOMETHING that will hold down there. you telling me 3M doesnt have a compound that can hold that shit shut?

first one say ice crystals form from the presence of some gas + the extreme cold.

Because what you see on a news is representative of what the actual engineers working on it are doing.

i imagine this thread is what is playing out in both washington and BP conference rooms.. except in suits and ties

Do they need to drill a whole new hole there? Could they just drill into the well line that is already there and divert the flow that way, like drill at an angle and intersect the current line like 100ft below the surface or something? or is that what they are doing?

no, they are not, likely because precisely locating that line and tapping it at such depth would be nearly impossible.

why not do that? blow up the world? according to what? the oil igniting under water? i dont get it.. couldnt they superheat some serious metal and put that shit in there? like a giant weld? i mean come on...

sacrifice a sub as an arc welder and have it weld itself into the hole? i really dont get it...

I'm pretty sure they're just drilling 2 more wells into the oil field to relieve the pressure on the main well so they can cap it.
